Staying with my Daddy in the hospital in August, I overheard an early morning conversation between two doctors…
They saw their practice as thematic
and developing ("those labs are SO last year") to reflect a distinctly individualistic approach to medicine. To me, they sounded so much
like architects wanting to develop a portfolio of related/thematic/recognizable
buildings.

But Western medicine type doctors don't focus on medical WELLNESS; they’re busy finding
ways to treat illness… to do so, they have to DIAGNOSE THE ILLNESS first.
Is there a correlation? Is an architectural PROGRAM like an illness to be treated? What would Dr. House say?
It seems as if most starchitects are after a portfolio theme that is largely aesthetic. Perhaps themes should be more diagnostic... or maybe the analogy is simply an analogy and no more.
